During the American Revolution, Daniel Claus ran a small sub-department of Indian affairs in Lachine, Quebec. Within his department Claus employed Loyalists from throughout the Colony of New York, men who been forced out of there homes while the Rebels gained power. Most had served in prominent governmental and militia positions within the colony prior to the war and were extremely capable and motivated leaders. These men served as Rangers, Scouts, Guides, Liaisons and Interpreters between the British Allied Natives and the British Army in an effort to suppress sedition in order to regain their rightful homes.
